Variable Sunbird (Cinnyris venustus)
This triangular postage due stamp (timbre taxe) highlights Mauritania's rich avian diversity by showcasing a variable sunbird, locally designated on the issue as souimanga de Falkenstein. The three-sided design frames the small, yellow-bellied songbird perched gracefully on a delicate leafy branch, its sharp beak pointing upward against a pale blue line-gradient background. This imagery carries a message of ecological variety and natural grace, celebrating the specialized birdlife that inhabits the wooded savannas and river valleys of the country's southern regions. Within Mauritania's early administrative framework, the issue utilizes this vibrant native species to personalize its official stationery, anchoring functional postal fees in a distinct national environmental identity.
