✨ Discovery of the day
Year: 1966
Thomas P. Stafford, Walter M. Schirra
Gemini 6A carried Walter Schirra and Thomas Stafford in December 1965. The mission performed a precise rendezvous with Gemini 7, bringing two crewed spacecraft close together while each remained under controlled flight. The rendezvous demonstrated navigation and manoeuvring methods required for complex missions in Earth orbit and beyond. These techniques became fundamental to docking operations and the Apollo lunar programme.
