✨ Discovery of the day
Year: 1966
Launching of the French Satellite D 1
France entered the satellite era in the mid-1960s through a national programme of launch vehicles and scientific spacecraft. The programme demonstrated the ability to place research instruments in orbit and conduct experiments above Earth’s atmosphere. The achievement contributed to the growth of European space science and encouraged further cooperation in aerospace research. Satellites soon became important tools for communications, observation and the study of the space environment.
