Rock Art of Teness, Adrar
The Adrar region contains prehistoric rock art that records animals, people and activities from periods when the Sahara had a different climate. These images are valuable evidence of ancient settlement and changing relationships between communities and the environment.
The rock-art sites form part of Mauritania’s archaeological heritage and deepen understanding of Saharan prehistory. Responsible tourism can promote their study and preservation while introducing visitors to the region’s long human history.
