3 years of the Organization of African Unity

The Organization of African Unity (OAU / O.U.A.) was founded on May 25, 1963, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to promote Pan-African unity, eradicate colonialism, defend member states' sovereignty, and foster economic and political integration across the continent. Mauritania, as a founding member state bridging North and West Africa, actively supported the OAU's diplomatic initiatives and regional peace efforts.

Issued in May 1966 by the Islamic Republic of Mauritania (REPUBLIQUE ISLAMIQUE DE MAURITANIE / الجمهورية الإسلامية الموريتانية), this airmail commemorative stamp (POSTE AERIENNE) marks the 3rd Anniversary of the Organization of African Unity. Designed by C. Haley and printed by SO.GE.IM, the striking artwork features a stylized green map of the African continent accompanied by a graceful outline of a dove of peace, symbolizing continental unity, freedom, and peaceful cooperation.
