Palm Grove in Adrar

Issued in 1965 as part of Mauritania's Tourism and Archaeology series, this stamp commemorates the palm groves of the Adrar region, one of the most distinctive landscapes of the Mauritanian Sahara. The oases of Adrar have long served as centers of settlement, agriculture, and caravan trade, providing water and fertile land in an otherwise arid environment. Date palms played a vital role in sustaining local communities and supporting economic activity along historic trans-Saharan routes.

By featuring the palm groves of Adrar, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania highlighted an important element of its natural and cultural heritage.
